JoJo O’Neal is President and Founder of the Let’s Kick Asthma Foundation, Inc., and seeks to educate people about asthma and how to live and breathe better with the condition.
JoJo was diagnosed with asthma as an adult and spent several months in denial about her condition. She finally accepted the situation and decided to learn more about asthma and how to control the symptoms instead of having the symptoms control her. “I don’t want asthma to prevent me from doing anything I want to do. Besides, I talk for a living so I really need to be able to breathe well” said JoJo. She is a well-known Orlando radio DJ.
JoJo studied Radio/Television Broadcasting at the University of Central Florida and has been a full time radio personality since 1984. During the late 90’s she simultaneously spent 7 years as Floor Director and Camera Operator for the Channel 9 Eyewitness News Daybreak show.
Currently JoJo can be heard weekdays from 10am to 3pm on Star 94.5 FM.
In December of 2012, during one of her many hospital stays that year, JoJo heard from several of her listeners who also suffer from asthma, and decided to get everyone together for a support group. Those asthma support group meetings grew into what is now known as the Let’s Kick Asthma Foundation, Inc.
In addition to offering asthma and pulmonary disease educational support groups, the organization also provides outreach services to patients diagnosed with asthma. “When you find it difficult to breathe, you lose energy and are unable to do everyday tasks, like cleaning your house or even walking outside to get your mail or take out your garbage. We provide assistance with those things and much more,” explains JoJo. “If you need someone to run errands for you, or help pay for asthma medications, we want to be there to help in any way we can,” she adds.
